CAMP HILL, Pa. – Holy Spirit–A Geisinger Affiliate has received full Chest Pain Center

with Primary PCI Resuscitation Accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care.

“We are very proud to demonstrate that we provide comprehensive and guideline-driven

care for patients with the full spectrum of chest pain, including those at the highest risk,” said

Andreas Wali, M.D., medical director of the Chest Pain Center at Holy Spirit. “This certification

validates Holy Spirit’s commitment to the highest level of care for our patients and helps to

distinguish this institution.”

“Holy Spirit leaders from emergency medicine, cardiovascular medicine, and our

hospitalist program, as well as case management, nursing, information technology and

administration worked together on processes to improve the outcomes and satisfaction of patients

suffering from heart issues,” said James Leaming, M.D., medical director of the John R. Dietz

Emergency Department at Holy Spirit Hospital. “We are proud that our work also resulted in us

being honored and recognized as a certified Chest Pain Center.”

Accredited Chest Pain Centers meet or exceed an array of stringent criteria and undergo a

comprehensive onsite review by a team of accreditation review specialists. More than 5 million

Americans visit hospitals each year with chest pain, and a Chest Pain Center’s evidence-based,

protocol-driven and systematic approach to cardiac patient care allows clinicians to reduce time

to treatment during the critical early stages of a heart attack. Accredited facilities effectively

monitor patients who present with chest pain, ensuring that they are neither sent home too early

nor needlessly admitted. Accredited facilities also serve as a point of entry into the healthcare

system to evaluate and treat other medical problems, and help to promote a healthier lifestyle in

an attempt to reduce the risk factors for heart attack.
